Generic name: Dydrogesterone
Common uses
Duphaston is an orally active progestogen which acts directly on the uterus producing a complete secretory endometrium in an estrogen-primed uterus. At therapeutic levels Duphaston has no contraceptive effect as it does not inhibit or interfere with ovulation or the corpus luteum. Furthermore Duphaston is non-androgenic non-estrogenic non-corticoid non-anabolic and is not excreted as pregnanediol.
Before using
Irregular duration of cycles and irregular occurrence and duration of periods caused by progesterone deficiency.
Combined with an estrogenic substance Duphaston can be applied in secondary amenorrhoea dysfunctional uterine bleeding and post-menopausal complaints where endogenous progesterone deficiency is implicated.
Directions
In general
The dosage schemes below are meant as general recommendations. For optimal therapeutic effect the dosages are to be adapted to the nature and severity of the disorder.
In irregular cycles due to endogenous progesterone deficiency
Duphaston 5 to 10 mg is recommended especially in irregular cycles due to shortened luteal phase (ie pre-menopause). Treatment should be repeated for several cycles.
In secondary amenorrhoea
Administration of Duphaston in combination with an estrogen is usually recommended as in these conditions endogenous progesterone deficiency is nearly always accompanied by estrogen deficiency. 0 05 mg ethinylestradiol is administered each day from the 1st to the 25th day of the cycle and 5 mg Duphaston is added twice daily from the 11th to the 25th day. Five days after the subsequent withdrawal bleeding the same is repeated to imitate a natural cycle.
In dysfunctional uterine bleeding
The symptomatic treatment is aimed at stopping the bleeding and including a subsequent withdrawal bleeding.
To stop bleeding: Duphaston 10 mg together with 0 10 mg ethinylestradiol twice daily for 5 to 7 days.
To prevent heavy bleedings: Duphaston 5 mg twice daily from day 11 to day 25 of the cycle if necessary combined with an estrogen during the first half of the cycle.
In post-menopausal complaints
If for the symptomatic treatment of post-menopausal complaints estrogens are used (hormone replacement therapy — HRT) Duphaston 10 mg is used to counteract the effects of unopposed estrogens on the endometrium. A subsequent withdrawal bleeding is induced.
If on continuous estrogen therapy: Duphaston 10 mg twice daily during the first 12 to 14 days of each calendar month.
If on cyclic estrogen therapy: Duphaston 10 mg twice daily during the last 12 to 14 days of the treatment.
Cautions
Duphaston should not be given to patients with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding nor to those with a history of thromboembolic disorders.
Duphaston should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular renal or hepatic impairment diabetes mellitus asthma epilepsy and migraine. It should be used with care in persons with a history of mental depression.
Store in a dry dark place at temperatures not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.

Side effects of Duphaston may include gastro-intestinal disturbances allergic skin rashes or urticaria changes in libido acne fluid retention mass gain mental depression and breast changes which may include discomfort or gynaecomastia. Alterations in liver function tests have been reported and less frequently jaundice.

Low Cost Prescription:
What are discount generic prescription drugs? If you ordered with the online drug store, for example generic viagra, do not be surprised to receive medications with a different name. Since generic are bioequivalent (made of the same active chemical elements) to branded pills, but just named differently. Popular and known drugs are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies-inventors, and generic are manufactured by other companies, after patent terms are out.
From a physician's point of view, generic drugs are better than branded prescription medications, for their chemical composition and way of taking are maximally well studied. Means generic drugs are more reliable and safe drugs. Accordingly, risks of eventual side effects are set up to the minimum for the manufacturer.
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) controls the quality of all medications. Before allowing any manufacturer to start clinical tests generics or prescription medications must be registered at the FDA. More over pills can be on sale only they were approved. The methods of control used by the FDA are so strict that not more 1/5 of drugs are approved.
Who manufactures generic drugs? Make sure to first know who manufactures the prescription medications, you intend to purchase. For example, if the generic viagra, proposed by the online drug store, is manufactured in India, means it is a quality and good generic. It is known that India — is the biggest and reliable manufacturer of generics. Large parts of generics are made in India. Among them we can name drugs for depression, prescription diet pills, sleeping pills, blood pressure medication, birth control pills, pain medication, slimming pills, asthma medication, impotence medication, stop smoking medication, arthritis medication and many other pills.
How much high quality prescription drugs and generics cost? Be aware of purchasing too cheap prescription drugs. Keep in mind the fact that no one will sell regardless of the profits! That's why any reliable online drug store will never sell quality medication at the same prices it purchases pills from manufacturers. Thus more the online drug store, whose prices for drugs are closed to the prices proposed by other stores. If you find a site where prices are considerably lower than usual — do not hurry to purchase. More probably, you do will receive poor quality prescription medications and do will loose your money.
However show attention when purchasing generic and not branded pills! Thus manufacturing and advertising generics is substantially less expensive than doing the same with branded pills, that's why generics are always cheaper! A generic can cost 10, 20 or even 50 times lower than its equivalent branded drug. That's why prices for one generic must be compared only to the prices for another generic, and to the ones for branded pills. If you find on an online drug store generic at a quite lower price than on other stores — make the choice in favor of the usual, common price which justifies itself.
Prescription Medication News. Health professionals have been advised that patients who are prescribed anti-psychotic drugs are the least likely to pick up their medicine.
Figures provided by the NHS Information Centre for England show that of all the anti-psychotic drugs prescribed by clinicians, only 85.1% of them are picked up by the patient.
This compares with 98.5% of other drugs that are prescribed. The data, from 145 GP practices and covering the period between 2004 and 2008, shows that the overall collection figure also dropped from 99.6% in 2005 to 98.5% in 2008.
