Certain types of breast cancer require estrogen to grow. • Nolvadex is used to treat and prevent some types of breast cancer that require estrogen to grow. • Nolvadex may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Nolvadex? • Before taking Nolvadex tell your doctor if you have a history of deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the leg); have a history of pulmonary thrombosis (blood clot in the lung); or take the blood thinner warfarin (Coumadin). • You may not be able to take Nolvadex or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. • Nolvadex is in the FDA pregnancy category D. Do not take Nolvadex without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during or for two months following treatment.
